I Rode the Width of Wisconsin and Listened to It

This is an artist book I made in 2020 inspired by a road trip from Minneapolis to Milwaukee and back, the entire width of Wisconsin. The content is an earnest but playful exercise in listening to a landscape from the seat of a moving car on an interstate freeway. Technically, the images are photopolymer gravure plates printed on top of inkjet photographic prints. The inkjet prints serve as an aquatint, and give depth and color to the black ink of the gravure plates. The poetic text is printed on a letterpress using kozo Japanese paper, and is tipped into the book with double-sided tape. The white marks that you can see on some of the images are letterpress printed with white ink.

This is an artist book I made, inspired by a trip I took in which I traveled by car through the state of Wisconsin. I took the trip in January 2020, and completed the book in February 2020.
